Meet Robin, the "Stone Soup Gal"
I have been homeschooling since 1996. It took me a decade to realize that the public school model is NOT best suited for teaching most children. With many different needs and learning styles, the best method for teaching is the one that most effectively encourages your child to have a desire to learn. After graduating two of my four at home, I realized that I had "filled the bucket" of my children's minds with many facts, but I had not lit a fire for learning.
Revamping my methods has been my mission since then. It's a learning process for me, driven by a heart of repentance. I began with one subject---Geography----and built our "curricula" from there. I am still trying to cast off the text books, but they are such a crutch! I use them mainly for reference now.
I want to encourage you to explore other teaching methods too. For your children, of course, but also for yourself. Home educating can be so much more than sitting at a desk with a text book or busywork!
